Welcome to Buy Personal Navigation
There are two main types of navigation systems to choose from: Personal navigation devices and in-dash navigation systems.
Personal Navigation Devices
Personal navigation devices, also known as PNDs, are portable versions of the navigation systems seen in luxury vehicles.
Personal navigation devices (PND) first entered the market in the early 1980’s, but these were big clunky systems that only contained maps for a small area. The newest generation of PND offer many more features, such as real-time traffic information, and offer maps of entire continents. The easy portability of these navigation systems allow you to easily tack them on vacations or business travels.
In-dash Navigation Systems
In-dash navigation systems are the next step in quality. These systems trade portability, as they must be permanently installed in the vehicle’s dash, for larger screens, better positioning (how the system/gps figures out where your car is) and more yellow page or points of interest (POI) listings. Many of these systems will also play DVD movies and serve as upgrades to the radio in the vehicle. While they cost more than PND devices, in-dash navigation devices offer many more features than pure navigation.
